As a lover of all things creative and anything east London bound, you can imagine how ecstatic I was to be assistant producer on Streetfest 2011! Merging together street art, fashion, music and breakdance, the festival proved a great pull for the creatively inclined to simply revel in the array of street crafts and to never catch Wretch 32 on the Jeremy Kyle show ; )
What I came to realise at this shoot is that filming at the event is very different from actually being one of the crowd. Lots of running around, chasing artists for interview, running to the sound deck to record music performances by the likes of Wretch 32 and Ghostpoet, not to mention trying to remain cool, calm and collected! Though I was off my feet, I loved every minute of it!
Our initial piece to camera with Maleena, the presenter and producer, did have some logistical difficulties in the sense that her walk through was in a very busy part of the festival ground and so I had to almost man handle anyone from getting in the way of the shot, but hey we got there in the end after about 10 takes, hmmm ok make that 5. All in all the shoot was great, though after 6 hours of shooting you can imagine just how hungry the London 360 team were! But meeting and interviewing Ghostpoet, Wretch 32, Bayo the organiser and some of the festival goers made me realise just how important this festival is for the thriving creative community in East London, bring on Streetfest 2012!
