The Royal Television Society (RTS) Futures held a careers day at the Business Design Centre, London, on Wednesday. Production companies and broadcasters such as Blast! Films, Hat Trick, Channel 4 and many others where offering fantastic advice for people trying to break into media.
Aside from the informative and varied stands there was also a CV Clinic where you could speak with someone in the industry about your CV and improve it – a truly fantastic bonus to an already great event. There was also an ‘Ask Me Anything’ area which does exactly what it says on the tin! Media professionals from all different areas with different expertise answered questions about their journey into the industry and advice.
Throughout the day were panel discussions offering tones of advice;
- Be tenacious, confident in your ideas and friendly.
- Show people your ideas.
- Knock backs can actually set you up for something great!
- Every environment you’re in, be jolly!
- Self shoot.
There were also some famous faces there including the incredible magician Dynamo who performed some great tricks for the crowd and the wonderful ITV reporter Charlene White. Both offered great advice and their energetic spirit made the day even more enjoyable! Look out for the London360 highlights video to see and hear for yourself!
The biggest take away I took from the day was to nurture relationships and try everything! Being new to the industry means I can see what it is I like and dislike and carve a career I want in media. A real highlight of the day was meeting some of the RTS team; Jamie, Alice and Paul were so helpful and it was great meeting them!
Thank you for having us RTS Futures, until next year!
